Backcountry Parenting was established in January of 2011 with a goal of inspiring and educating families as to the benefits of getting outdoors. Our inspiration for starting this blog came after we took our 6-month-old son on a 5 day backpacking trip.
My wife and I have always been very active in the outdoors and once the bun was in the oven everyone politely informed us that our fun would cease. We strive daily to prove those people wrong. Just because we have a child does not mean that we have to quite, slow down a bit maybe, but no quitting!
During our first year of existence we have obtained some of our goals and lost others. We have gained a great online presence with a satisfying amount of followers and average readers, thanks to all of you! We have become family ambassadors for Deuter, a post about this will follow soon, and have been given some great gear to test out by other companies. We are continuing to reach out to find the best gear on the market to make your experiences wonderful and hope to make all of the mistakes so none of you have to have a bad experience.
This first year has been rough in getting a posting routine set, hence our sparse posts. Our lives are filled with college, work, organizing climbing events, and simple family life. Our new goals for 2012 are to submit posts at least weekly and to get a great new look. Keep your eyes open for all that’s coming. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
