Kylan vs Cactus

Forgive us for the lack of photos to accompany this post due to our initial parental freak out and the fact that it was after dark, we didn't take any.

After a long day of driving, setting up camp, & climbing we had eaten dinner and were winding down at camp. Kylan was in his PJs and camp slippers toddling around camp with a glow light around his neck because it was dark out.

He was doing great having a good time walking from the car to the tent to his camp chair and back to the car. He was staying close and out of trouble. Then he decided to make his way toward the tent of another couple that had come camping with us. Daddy was following close behind and all of a sudden Kylan tripped and landed in a patch of cactus.

I had been in the tent getting myself ready for bed when I hear: "Jentri, come here right now," with tears in the background. I came out to see Kylan in his camping chair crying and Corey holding his hand open with his head lamp shining on Kylan's hand. When I got closer I saw hair like things sticking out of my son's hands, they were cactus needles! They were all over his poor little hands and all over his PJs.
I quickly ran and grabbed some tweezers, came back, handed them to Corey and proceeded to assist with "surgery". I held Kylan's hands very still while Corey pulled the needles from them. After getting all of the small ones he had to tackle the big one, a 1/4"needle that was stuck deep in Kylan's hand. This one required the tip of a knife because it was in so deep.

After getting the needles out of his hands we then had to take off his jammys because they were covered in needles. After removing them we found that there were still needles in his tummy and legs that we had pull out. It was so sad.

Naked baby got checked from head to toe to make sure we had gotten them all and then got a fresh pair of jammys, and some neosporin on his poor bloody hand.

There were lots of tears that night but he lived though it. The moral of this story is don't camp near cactus and always bring tweezers.

These are all of the cactus needles that I removed from Kylan's PJs after we got home. Lots of fun with tweezers and fuzzy pajamas let me tell ya.
