Normally we wouldn't complain, but we actually have activities planned! Snow shoeing, nordic skiing, alpine skiing, and good ole' general snowy fun. It took us some time to wrap our brains around what to do with a winter sans-snow. My spontaneous idea: hike Menan Butte.

Question: If your toddler falls asleep in the carseat 10 minutes before you reach the trailhead what do you do?
We figured with the large opening feature of our Kid Comfort III we could transition the sleeping monster from carseat to carrier no problem.
Ky ended up waking up as soon as the car turned off so we didn't get to test our theory. We quickly geared up and set off down, or rather, up the trail. Ky started off riding on daddy and had a great time pointing out the birds and other random things he saw.
Half way up Ky decided he wanted to get his own boots dirty by taking the trail alone. Well, almost alone, he had to have mom's trekking poles.
Ky's independent streak only lasted 15 minutes and was happy to ride on mom's back.
Ky excersizing his agency |
After we summited the wind picked up forcing our retreat. Thanks to Ky's windproof Esh bunting the wind was not much of a problem. Half way back to the shelter of our car Ky was once again asleep. The transition from carrier to carseat went off without a hitch and we slowly made our way home.
Quick trips like this are great ways to get the family outside without having to do much planning. Just remember to take the essentials: diapers, proper clothing, water, and treats. The rewards are endless!

Looks fun! The pics of Ky with Jentri's trekking poles are pretty adorable. We need to check out that bunting, too. Looks cool.
Awesome! I love those kind of quick trips. Glad your fam had fun!
Terrific! We took a nearly snow free trek this weekend too. However where we encountered challenges without the snow was dealing with the ice beneath. Albeit dangerous is did lend to some adventurous scrambling and laughter inducing sliding. Ky really knows how to work a pair of trekking poles!
